To celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr in 2024, the UAE declared a week off for the public sector. The UAE cabinet authorized a decision granting federal government employees a leave of absence from April 8 to April 14, Monday through Sunday.

Work will resume on April 15.

This was mentioned in an evening report released by the UAE Media Office on April 14. Because of this kind of action, government workers are eligible for a nine-day holiday period, which also includes the weekend of the following.

“The United Arab Emirates Moon-Sighting Council will determine the official start date of Eid,” the statement said. We still don’t know the private sector’s plans for the Eid holiday. Nonetheless, federal employees receive the same amount of paid time off for holidays each year as those in the private sector.

Public holiday dates in the UAE include:

– Eid ul Fitr: April 8-14

– Arafat Day: June 15

– Eid Al Adha: June 16-18

– Islamic New Year: July 7

– Prophet Mohammed’s Birthday: September 15

– Commemoration Day: December 1

– National Day: December 2-3

Muslims commemorate Eid ul Fitr, the end of their month-long fast, with morning prayers, get-togethers with family, exchanges of gifts, and acts of charity.

Many take advantage of the long weekend to visit foreign countries or go on quick travels within their own region, while some use it to shop for new clothes for the holiday season.
