ISLAMABAD: Meta-owned WhatsApp keeps on introducing new feature, and now instant messaging app is going to provide one-of-a-kind usernames, so they could link without a need to share their phone numbers.

Imagine you can message anyone on WhatsApp without sharing your phone number. You may have wished for it in the past, and it may be a reality now. The app is currently testing a new username system set to make connecting safer and private.

In new updates, WhatsApp users will have the option to generate a unique username and, optionally, another layer of security referred to as a username key.

Even with your username, others won’t be able to send you a message without a key, providing users with unprecedented ability to control who can contact them.

WhatsApp is also making its move towards fairness. To prevent most popular usernames from being grabbed too fast, the site will enable users to hold onto their desired usernames before the complete launch.

Right before system officially goes live, the reservation feature is set to be activated, making sure that everyone gets an equal opportunity to grab the names they desire.

Until early October, WhatsApp has not given an update, and users will have to wait for confirmation. Nevertheless, this update will prove to be a game-changer for privacy-conscious users as well as businesses, and WhatsApp will become a safer, more versatile means of communication.

The feature is already rolling out on some Android beta, which allows users to pre-register their usernames. WhatsApp is working to avoid chaos, making sure popular usernames don’t get taken over too fast, so everyone has a fair chance at using the name that they prefer.

To prevent business strategies, it also enforced some of the regulations as username should have one letter, and it can only contain lower-case letters, numbers, periods, and underscores. Some popular codes and codes such as “www,” will be prohibited.

The new feature will make it easier to connect as many individuals were reluctant for a long time to exchange phone numbers with new contacts, but usernames will give a secure, more personal means of reaching out. The shift might make WhatsApp much more attractive not only for everyday users, but also for companies in need of secure communication channels
