Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s 96th birth anniversary today

KARACHI – Today (Friday) is Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s 96th birthday, the founder of the Pakistan People’s Party and a former prime minister.

On January 5, 1928, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was born in Larkana. Bhutto received her education at Berkeley and Oxford and trained at Lincoln’s Inn as a barrister.

Prior to being given multiple ministries during President Ayub Khan’s military rule, he entered politics as a member of President Iskander Mirza’s cabinet.

In 1967, he established the Pakistan People’s Party.

From 1971 to 1973, Bhutto presided over Pakistan as president, and from 1973 to 1977, she was prime minister.

Bhutto was overthrown in a bloodless coup on July 5, 1977, by General Zia-ul-Haq, the Chief of Army Staff.

On April 4, 1979, he was sentenced to death in the most contentious case in our legal history.

The first unanimous constitution of Pakistan was drafted by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, who also started the nation’s nuclear program.

PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also gave a heartfelt homage to his grandfather in his speech on Bhutto’s birth anniversary.

In a message on X, formerly Twitter, Bilawal stated, “We’ll make Pakistan a prosperous and strong country according to the ideology of Quaid-e-Awam.”

In her message on X, senior PPP leader Sherry Rehman also gave a heartfelt homage to the late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

“His grandson Bilawal Bhutto is carrying on his dream today by empowering the lowest rungs of the social pyramid, rebuilding Pakistan as a vibrant economy, and investing in human capital, sustainable development, and policy tools that revitalize our social sectors and make them resilient in the twenty-first century,” Rehman stated.
