MEXICO CITY: Mexican social media influencer Valeria Marquez was shot dead by unknown assailants during a live session on TikTok.

Reports say the 23-year-old was allegedly killed in the Mexican state of Jalisco while she was doing a live session at her beauty salon.

Police said they are investigating the case as an act of femicide, which is defined as the intentional killing of women or girls because of their gender.

According to official statements, an attacker entered her salon, opened fire on her and fled the scene.

The viral video shows Valeria holding a toy during a TikTok live stream minutes before she was shot.

At one point, a man can be heard saying “Hey Val” and she says “yes” in response. Gunshots are later heard and she dies at the scene.

The beauty influencer had nearly 200,000 followers on both TikTok and Instagram.
