Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Meets in Peshawar to Decide Ramadan Moon Sighting in Pakistan

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is holding an important meeting in Peshawar today to sight the Ramadan moon and announce the beginning of fasting in Pakistan. The decision will determine when millions of Muslims across the country will observe the first fast.

Officials confirmed that the meeting is taking place under the supervision of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which is responsible for officially confirming Islamic lunar months. Religious scholars, meteorological experts, and officials are participating in the session.

According to the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), scientific data suggests that the moon has already formed. The final announcement will be made by committee chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad after reviewing moon sighting reports received from across the country. The official declaration will confirm whether Ramadan begins on Wednesday or Thursday.

Meanwhile, Ramadan has already started in Saudi Arabia and several other Arab nations. Worshippers gathered in large numbers at the Masjid al-Haram in Makkah and the Al-Masjid an-Nabawi in Madinah to offer the first Taraweeh prayers. Muslims prayed for forgiveness, peace, and blessings as the holy month began.

In contrast, Muslims living in the United Kingdom and other parts of Europe are observing Ramadan on different days. Some communities follow astronomical calendars, while others wait for physical moon sighting confirmations.

In Pakistan, the committee’s decision is widely followed. The announcement will not only mark the start of fasting but also set the schedule for Taraweeh prayers and other religious activities throughout Ramadan.
