Eid ul Fitr 2026 has been officially announced in several Islamic countries, where authorities confirmed the festival will be celebrated on Friday.
Reports say Gulf countries completed 30 days of Ramadan after the moon was not sighted a day earlier. Because of this, Eid ul Fitr 2026 will fall on March 20 in these regions.
Countries including Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Iraq, Yemen, and Lebanon have all confirmed Friday as the first day of Eid. Officials had already indicated that Eid would follow the completion of 30 fasts.
Meanwhile, moon sighting is taking place today in many Asian countries. These include Pakistan, Turkey, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, India, Bangladesh, Iran, Oman, Jordan, Syria, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, and Mauritania.
Experts believe there is a strong chance that the moon may not be visible in most Asian regions today. If that happens, Eid ul Fitr 2026 in Pakistan and nearby countries is likely to be celebrated on Saturday.
However, the final decision will depend on official announcements after receiving moon sighting testimonies. Authorities usually observe the moon just after sunset.
It is important to note that different countries follow different methods for moon sighting. Some rely on traditional visual confirmation, while others also consider astronomical data.
Weather experts say visibility of the moon changes every year due to geographical position and atmospheric conditions. This is why Eid ul Fitr 2026 may fall on different days in different countries.
Eid ul Fitr marks the end of Ramadan and is celebrated with prayers, gatherings, and acts of charity across the Muslim world.
