The plan to introduce electric bikes for Punjab govt employees has been announced by the provincial government to improve field operations. The initiative targets Excise Department staff across Punjab and aims to help meet a recovery goal of Rs. 73 billion. Officials confirmed the scheme will begin soon, with distribution expected next month.

Under this initiative, excise inspectors working in different districts will receive electric two-wheelers based on their performance. Both male and female officers are included in the plan, showing a focus on equal opportunity within the department.

In the first phase, the government will distribute 150 electric bikes. Alongside this, 50 electric scooties will be provided specifically for female inspectors. Authorities have allocated more than Rs. 50 million for the purchase of these vehicles.

Officials stated that the procurement process is already in its final stage. Once completed, the distribution will begin without delay to ensure inspectors can use the vehicles for field duties as soon as possible.

The move is expected to improve mobility, allowing inspectors to perform their duties more efficiently. Better transportation will help them monitor tax compliance and increase revenue collection.

According to the plan, the bikes and scooties will initially remain under government ownership. However, after a period of three years, the vehicles will be transferred to the employees. This means staff members will eventually become owners of the vehicles they use.

The initiative reflects the government’s focus on modern solutions and improved performance within departments. It also highlights a shift towards eco-friendly transport options in official operations.
