Hormuz Strait security warning has been issued by US President Donald Trump. He said the future of NATO could be in danger if allied countries do not help secure the important sea route.

In an interview with a British newspaper, Trump said the United States is currently in contact with Iran. However, he believes Tehran is not ready to reach an agreement at this time.

Trump explained that the US is talking with nearly seven countries about protecting the Strait of Hormuz. He said these countries should play a role in keeping the vital waterway open and secure.

According to Trump, Israel is already cooperating with the United States in this effort.

The US president warned that if NATO member states fail to assist, the future of the alliance could become very uncertain.

Trump also suggested that his planned meeting with Xi Jinping later this month might be delayed.

He said the meeting will only be useful if countries that benefit from the Strait of Hormuz help ensure its safety.

Earlier, Trump had asked several countries including South Korea, Japan, France, China and United Kingdom to send naval ships to the area to protect global oil shipments.

Despite the request, the global response has been cautious. Reports suggest that France, the United Kingdom, Japan and Australia have not agreed to deploy naval forces so far.
