Karachi Airport departure facilities upgrade has begun, aiming to make passenger travel smoother and faster. Officials at Jinnah International Airport announced on Saturday that all 20 immigration departure counters are now fully operational.
Deputy Director of Immigration Shehzad Akbar said that full staffing during peak hours has reduced the average clearance time to nearly one minute per passenger. This ensures faster processing and less waiting for travellers.
A pre-departure clearance counter is also available, allowing passengers to complete immigration checks days before their flights. Authorities believe this step will prevent last-minute delays and improve overall travel experience.
Additional improvements are planned, including the installation of e-gates and a dedicated mobile app to help passengers navigate airport services efficiently. The Airport Security Force has also restricted non-travellers from entering departure areas, reducing congestion and ensuring smoother movement.
During peak hours, some domestic lounge counters are temporarily used for international departures, giving airlines extra space for boarding. Officials said all these measures are part of a broader plan to modernize Karachi airport and enhance passenger convenience.
Passengers are expected to benefit from shorter wait times, faster processing, and an overall more comfortable airport experience. These upgrades reflect ongoing efforts to bring Karachi Airport in line with international standards while ensuring safety and efficiency.
