Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday received a detailed Islamabad security briefing from Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. The meeting focused on the current law and order situation in the federal capital and nationwide security concerns.
According to an official statement, the prime minister directed the interior minister to take all necessary measures to maintain security in Islamabad and address related issues efficiently. During the session, plans were also finalized for Naqvi’s upcoming visit to Sri Lanka, where he will deliver a special message from PM Shehbaz to the Sri Lankan president.
The visit comes after Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake requested Pakistan to participate in the T20 World Cup clash against India. He referenced Pakistan’s past support for Sri Lankan cricket during difficult periods. The government confirmed that the Pakistan cricket team will play on February 15 to uphold the spirit of the sport, despite initial plans to boycott the match following Bangladesh’s removal from the tournament.
Meanwhile, in Islamabad, protests led by Tehreek-e-Tahfuz-Ayeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP) continue outside Parliament over former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s health. Activists demand his transfer to Shifa International Hospital for urgent eye treatment. Opposition leaders, including Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, and Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, have maintained their sit-in since Friday. Heavy police deployment remains in the Red Zone, with limited traffic access and security vehicles stationed near both protest sites.
The Islamabad security briefing today highlighted the government’s focus on maintaining order in the capital while also managing international engagements and ongoing domestic protests.
