Karakoram Highway Blocked at several locations after landslides in northern Pakistan. Continuous rain and snowfall caused road blockages between Diamer district in Gilgit-Baltistan and Kohistan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The Karakoram Highway Blocked situation left thousands of passengers stranded along the route on Tuesday night. Travelers moving between Gilgit-Baltistan and other parts of Pakistan could not continue their journey.

Among the stranded passengers were patients, elderly people, and children. Many people had to wait on the highway because debris blocked the road at different points.

Police officials in Diamer said landslides occurred in several areas of Diamer and Kohistan on Tuesday. Falling rocks and mud blocked the Karakoram Highway at multiple locations.

The blockages were reported from Barseen in Upper Kohistan to the Pattan area in Lower Kohistan. Because of these landslides, traffic movement on the highway remained completely suspended.

Diamer Deputy Commissioner Attaur Rehman Kakar confirmed that the Karakoram Highway Blocked situation was caused by landslides in Upper and Lower Kohistan. Authorities temporarily closed the highway to prevent accidents.

Officials said debris removal work will start once the weather improves. The Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) will lead the operation to clear the road and restore traffic.

Over the past two days, many parts of Gilgit-Baltistan received rainfall. Higher mountainous areas also experienced fresh snowfall.

The bad weather triggered landslides in remote areas and disrupted road links between communities. Residents in several areas faced travel difficulties due to the blocked routes.

Authorities advised travelers to check road conditions before starting their journey. Rescue and clearance teams remain ready to restore the Karakoram Highway as soon as possible.
