The Margalla Avenue Road Project is set to begin soon as the Capital Development Authority (CDA) moves forward with financial bids. The project will cost Rs. 3.58 billion and aims to improve road connectivity in Islamabad.
CDA Chairman Mohammad Ali Randhawa reviewed the progress during a meeting on ongoing and upcoming development schemes. He directed officials to speed up necessary procedures.
The project includes construction of a 2.7-kilometer road section. This stretch will connect Margalla Avenue directly with Motorway M-1.
CDA has already opened technical bids. Financial bids will now be finalized to award the contract for the remaining work.
An interchange will also be built on GT Road. The road will end near Sangjani Grid Station within Islamabad’s limits.
Separately, the National Highway Authority has started work on a 2.5-kilometer portion in Rawalpindi. This section will connect the road to M-1 near AWT Housing Society.
During the same meeting, CDA reviewed plans for a model graveyard at Pandoriyan. The chairman directed the engineering team to finalize the design. He asked for proper road access, prayer halls, ablution areas, and sufficient parking space.
The authority also plans to include an electric hearse, ambulance service, and CCTV cameras at the graveyard. It will also serve residents of the Kuri housing scheme.
In addition, CDA discussed traffic improvement projects at Kashmir Chowk and from Express Chowk to Aga Khan Avenue. Consultant hiring has started for the Expressway Service Road East project. Progress on the Islamabad Convention Centre and Expo Centre was also reviewed.
The Margalla Avenue Road Project is expected to ease traffic flow and improve access between Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
