K-P living in stone age, says Maryam Nawaz as she criticised the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government during a laptop distribution ceremony held at a university in Gujrat on Monday.
Speaking to students, the Punjab chief minister compared Punjab’s development initiatives with what she described as a lack of progress in KP. She said Punjab is moving forward with modern programmes, while KP has not kept pace with changing times.
Maryam highlighted several schemes introduced in Punjab. These included Honhaar scholarships, laptop distribution, the Parwaz Card, green transport buses, and technical training opportunities. She said these programmes aim to support students and prepare them for global competition.
She expressed concern about the situation in KP. According to her, students need access to modern tools like laptops, computers, and digital resources to succeed today. She stressed that access to technology is essential for education and career growth.
The chief minister also criticised the long rule of the PTI government in KP. She said the province had been under the same leadership for more than a decade but had not seen major development projects like those introduced in Punjab.
Maryam further said that blocking major roads in KP does not harm Punjab’s economy. Instead, she argued, such actions damage KP’s own business and economic activity. She noted that road closures mainly affect local trade and daily life in the province.
During the ceremony, video clips of former prime minister Imran Khan were shown from his time in office. In the footage, he had spoken about removing facilities from prison cells of political opponents.
Responding to this, Maryam said that despite political differences, she and other PML-N leaders never considered taking away basic facilities from him. She said political rivalry should not cross certain limits.
The event in Gujrat was part of Punjab’s ongoing effort to distribute laptops among students. The government says the programme is designed to help young people improve their education and digital skills.
Maryam concluded by encouraging students to focus on their studies and take advantage of available opportunities. She said investment in education and technology is key to future progress.
