The development around Mojtaba Khamenei new Supreme Leader has received international reaction, with North Korea publicly supporting Iran’s decision.

According to the North Korean state news agency KCNA, the country welcomed the selection of Mojtaba Khamenei as Iran’s new Supreme Leader. A spokesperson for the North Korean Foreign Ministry said the choice made by Iran’s Assembly of Experts should be respected.

The spokesperson said it is the right of the Iranian people to choose their own leadership. North Korea described the decision as an internal matter of Iran and called for respect for the country’s sovereignty.

At the same time, North Korea strongly criticized recent military strikes carried out by the United States and Israel against Iran. The spokesperson called these attacks an “illegal act of aggression”.

Pyongyang warned that such actions could threaten regional peace and stability. It also said harming a country’s political sovereignty and territorial integrity is unacceptable and should be condemned by the international community.

Reports say Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed on February 28 during a joint attack by the United States and Israel. After his death, Iran’s Assembly of Experts reportedly selected his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, as the new Supreme Leader.

Meanwhile, North Korea has also conducted another test of a strategic cruise missile from its modern warship “Choe Hyon”. The test took place under the supervision of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

During the event, Kim Jong Un reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining and strengthening the country’s nuclear defense capability.

International media reports say North Korea considers its nuclear program essential for defense against external threats, particularly the United States and its allies. Washington has long tried to push Pyongyang to abandon its nuclear program.

In recent months, there have also been discussions about possible talks between the United States and North Korea. However, Pyongyang says relations can only improve if Washington recognizes North Korea as a nuclear power.
