Moon Over Masjid al-Haram will be visible in Makkah on the night of 28 February 2026. The rare astronomical event will occur at exactly 10:24:40 PM local time.
At that moment, the moon will cross the local meridian line. It will reach an ارتفاع of nearly 90 degrees. This means it will appear directly above the Holy Kaaba in the sky.
Astronomy experts call this phenomenon “lunar culmination.” It happens when the moon’s declination matches the latitude of a specific place.
During this event, people anywhere in the world can determine the correct Qibla direction. They only need to face the moon at that specific time.
Experts say the moon will be about 374,000 kilometers away from Earth. Its brightness will be around 91 percent. It will appear almost like a full moon.
The event can be seen with the naked eye from clear and dark locations. However, using binoculars or a telescope will provide a clearer view.
Such events are important for both scientific observation and religious guidance. Skywatchers and worshippers in Makkah are expected to witness a beautiful and meaningful sight.
