Four government employees were sentenced in the Official Secrets Act case for leaking sensitive information, a special court in Islamabad announced on Friday.
The Special Court under the Official Secrets Act delivered the verdict after hearing the case registered by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). Two other accused were acquitted due to lack of evidence.
Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra announced the decision. Safdar Rehman was awarded 10 years in prison. Tufail Rehman, Muhammad Waqar, and Muhammad Tahir were each sentenced to five years in jail.
The court ruled that the prosecution had provided enough proof against the four convicted men. However, the charges against Mujtaba and Muhammad Ashfaq were not proven. They were released by the court.
According to the FIR filed by the FIA, the accused were charged with providing sensitive state information to a foreign embassy. The investigation led to their arrest and trial under the law.
The decision in the Official Secrets Act case highlights strict legal action against those found guilty of sharing classified information. Authorities say the law will continue to be enforced to protect national security.
