The Challan Nahi, Helmet Campaign has been launched by the National Highways and Motorway Police to improve road safety on highways. The initiative allows motorcyclists to buy a helmet instead of paying a traffic fine.

Under the Challan Nahi, Helmet Campaign, officers stop riders who are travelling without helmets. They advise them to purchase and wear a helmet before issuing a challan.

Officials say the price of a helmet is almost equal to the traffic fine. If the rider buys and wears the helmet on the spot, no challan is issued.

A spokesperson of the Motorway Police, Inspector Saqib Waheed, said the purpose of the Challan Nahi, Helmet Campaign is to protect motorcyclists. He explained that helmets can save riders from serious head injuries during accidents.

He added that if a rider continues to travel without wearing a helmet after buying one, strict legal action will be taken.

A motorcyclist on the Murree Expressway shared his experience. He said officers stopped him for not wearing a helmet. Instead of giving a fine, they advised him to buy one. After purchasing a helmet, he was allowed to continue his journey.

The Challan Nahi, Helmet Campaign aims to spread awareness and encourage safer travel on national highways.
