Pakistan Middle East peace efforts received strong support from Antonio Costa during a phone call with Shehbaz Sharif on Monday. Both leaders agreed that dialogue and diplomacy are key to restoring peace in the region.
During the call, PM Shehbaz shared details of Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic steps. He said the country is actively working to reduce tensions in the Middle East through peaceful engagement.
The two leaders also discussed Pakistan’s relations with the European Union. They highlighted the importance of the GSP+ trade status and cooperation in different sectors.
PM Shehbaz said both sides agreed that peaceful talks must continue. He stressed that only dialogue can bring stability to the region.
The prime minister also mentioned the upcoming Pakistan–EU Business Forum. The event is expected to take place in Islamabad at the end of April.
Pakistan Middle East peace efforts have gained attention as Islamabad plays a role between Iran and the United States. The country has been helping pass messages between the two sides.
Senior officials, including Asim Munir, have also been part of key contacts. These efforts were confirmed by the White House.
On Sunday, Pakistan hosted a meeting in Islamabad with foreign ministers from Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, and Egypt. The talks focused on the ongoing conflict.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar said Pakistan is ready to host direct talks between Iran and the US. He added that both sides trust Pakistan’s role as a mediator.
Antonio Costa said the European Union is concerned about the long conflict and its global impact. He added that the EU supports all efforts aimed at peace.
