Pakistan Navy has launched Operation Muhafiz-ul-Bahr to protect national shipping and maritime trade amid escalating tensions in the Middle East. The military’s media wing, ISPR, announced the operation on Monday, aiming to secure vital sea routes and prevent disruptions in national trade.
The Middle East situation intensified after US and Israeli airstrikes targeted Iran, killing several senior officials. Iran retaliated by attacking US military bases and regional energy infrastructure. These actions have disrupted around 20% of global crude and gas supplies, raising concerns for countries reliant on maritime trade.
According to ISPR, the operation ensures uninterrupted national energy supplies and the security of sea lines of communication (SLOCs). Pakistan conducts around 90% of its trade via sea, making maritime protection critical.
The Pakistan Navy is escorting merchant vessels in coordination with the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation. Currently, two ships are under PN escort, with one expected to arrive in Karachi today.
ISPR stated that the navy is closely monitoring maritime movements and is fully prepared to respond to security challenges. The operation reinforces Pakistan’s commitment to safe shipping and regional maritime security.
