ISLAMABAD: The PTA hidden deductions warning has been issued to telecom companies after widespread complaints from mobile users about unauthorized balance cuts. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority said strict action will be taken against operators involved in secret charges.
The regulator made it clear that telecom companies cannot activate value-added services without customer permission. Companies must get clear consent before charging any extra fee. PTA also said tariff changes require prior approval from the authority.
Mobile users across Pakistan have reported sudden balance losses. Many consumers said their credit was deducted without any information. Some users claimed daily charges were applied for services they never requested.
PTA directed telecom operators to improve transparency in billing. It asked companies to focus on improving network services instead of adding hidden charges on customers.
To help affected users, PTA advised people to submit complaints through its helpline and official platforms. The authority assured that consumer rights will be protected and violations will not be ignored.
In another step, PTA announced that calls to toll-free numbers starting with 0800 will now be free for mobile users. Earlier, only landline users could call these numbers without charges.
The PTA hidden deductions warning came after public anger increased on social media. Many users demanded strict regulation to stop unauthorized subscriptions and protect mobile balance.
PTA said it is monitoring telecom companies closely and working with industry stakeholders to ensure fair service and restore public trust.
