Pakistan Internet Firewall Reports Rejected as Telecom Operators Confirm System Still Active

Pakistan Internet Firewall

Pakistan Internet Firewall reports circulating online have been strongly rejected by telecom operators, who say the system is still working normally.

These claims first appeared on social media. Some posts said the government had shut down an internet firewall after it failed to perform properly. The reports quickly spread and caused public concern.

Telecom companies, however, clarified they had received no instructions from authorities to disable any firewall. They confirmed that their network infrastructure, including monitoring systems, remains fully operational.

Officials from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority also explained their position. They said PTA does not run any firewall itself. Instead, the authority uses a Web Management System.

According to PTA officials, this system has been active for nearly 20 years. Its purpose is to block illegal online content and control grey traffic. They confirmed that the system is still working and has not been stopped.

The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has not issued any official statement yet. However, sources familiar with the matter said the infrastructure exists at telecom operators’ level. This makes the telecom companies’ clarification important.

The issue comes at a time when people are closely watching internet regulation in the country. Despite rumors, authorities and telecom operators insist the Pakistan Internet Firewall has not been shut down.
