The provincial administration has announced that Punjab Enforces Section 144 Basant ahead of the traditional kite-flying season to maintain public order and prevent unrest. The Punjab Home Department confirmed the decision, stressing that authorities will not tolerate any violations during the festival period.

According to an official spokesperson, the measure aims to curb provocative activities and reduce the risk of lawlessness often linked with Basant celebrations. Officials warned that strict action will follow if anyone breaches the restrictions. As a result, law enforcement agencies have been placed on alert across Lahore.

Moreover, authorities stated that no form of illegal activity will be permitted during the festival. The administration emphasized that public safety remains its top priority. Therefore, residents have been urged to comply with all regulations and cooperate with security personnel.

In addition, motorcycle riders must install safety rods to prevent injuries caused by kite strings, which have historically resulted in serious accidents. Officials believe this precaution will help reduce harm to commuters, particularly during peak festival hours when roads become crowded.

Security has also been tightened at key entry and exit points of Lahore. Police teams will conduct vehicle inspections to stop the transport of hazardous materials and ensure compliance with the law. Meanwhile, aerial firing and the public display of weapons have been completely banned under the directive.

The move reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to balance cultural traditions with public safety concerns. Basant, once widely celebrated in Punjab with vibrant skies and rooftop gatherings, has faced restrictions in recent years due to safety incidents. Authorities argue that preventive steps remain necessary to protect lives.

Furthermore, officials reiterated that enforcement teams will act without hesitation against offenders. They noted that maintaining peace during large gatherings requires coordinated action from both citizens and security agencies.

As Punjab Enforces Section 144 Basant, the administration continues to appeal for responsible behavior. Observers say the success of these measures will largely depend on public cooperation. For now, the government maintains that strict monitoring and proactive policing are essential to ensure a safe environment throughout the festival period.
