QS Subject Rankings 2026 highlight that 35 Pakistani universities have secured positions in global subject rankings. The QS Subject Rankings 2026 also show strong performance in engineering and agriculture, but gaps remain in international reputation.

The rankings evaluate universities based on academic reputation, employer reputation, research output, and global engagement. These indicators help measure the quality of education and research worldwide.

Top Performers Lead the List

National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST) Islamabad emerged as a leading institution. It ranked 68th in Asia and performed well in engineering and technology subjects. Its strong research output and academic reputation supported its position.

Quaid-e-Azam University followed with solid research performance. It ranked 89th in Asia and showed strong results in natural sciences and environmental studies.

Among private universities, Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) stood out. It secured a strong global position in business and management studies, making it Pakistan’s top business education institution.

Other Universities Show Steady Performance

COMSATS University Islamabad ranked well in computer science and engineering fields.

University of the Punjab also appeared in multiple subjects, including social sciences and agriculture.

University of Agriculture Faisalabad performed strongly in agriculture and forestry, reaching the top 200 globally in its field.

Other institutions like University of Karachi and Government College University Lahore maintained positions in mid-level global rankings.

Key Trends and Challenges

The QS Subject Rankings 2026 reveal a gap between research output and global recognition. Some universities produce strong research but lack international visibility.

Another major issue is regional imbalance. Most top-ranked universities are based in Islamabad and Lahore, while institutions in other cities are still developing their global presence.

Experts believe that better research funding, faculty training, and international partnerships can improve rankings in the future.

What the Rankings Show

The QS Subject Rankings 2026 confirm that Pakistan is progressing in higher education, especially in technical and agricultural fields. However, improving global reputation and expanding opportunities across all regions remain key challenges.
