ISLAMABAD: Chairman of the Senate Yousaf Raza Gilani has notified Senator Allama Raja Nasir Abbas as the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate.
Yousaf Raza Gilani said that the post of Leader of the Opposition is an important matter of the Senate and this decision needs to be kept on record.
He further said that the Chairman of the Senate has full authority to declare the Leader of the Opposition.
Yousaf Raza Gilani also mentioned Senator Shibli Faraz on this occasion and said that the Election Commission had disqualified Shibli Faraz, after which this matter was challenged in the Peshawar High Court.
Referring to the ongoing case in the Peshawar High Court regarding Shibli Faraz’s disqualification, Gilani said that the matter is still under consideration in the court.
The Chairman Senate said that there is no ambiguity regarding the position of the opposition in the Senate, and this decision has brought more clarity in the proceedings of the Senate.
He stressed the importance of the decision to elect Senator Allama Nasir Abbas as the Leader of the Opposition and said that this will further strengthen the role of the opposition in the Senate.
After this decision, all matters regarding the leadership of the opposition in the Senate have become clear and there will be no dispute in the proceedings of the Senate.
Yousaf Raza Gilani said that importance will be given to the representation of all political parties in the Senate and the voice of the opposition will be heard effectively.
