ISLAMABAD (Rizwan Abbasi): Amna Baloch, a veteran diplomat, has taken charge as the 33rd Foreign Secretary of Pakistan replacing Syrus Sajjad Qazi, the Foreign Office said on Wednesday.
Amna Baloch, a Grade-22 officer of the Foreign Service of Pakistan was appointed last week becoming the second female Foreign Secretary after Tehmina Janjua.
Speaking at the farewell reception of Ambassador Syrus Sajjad Qazi, — who stepped down as the Foreign Secretary of Pakistan on Tuesday upon attaining superannuation — Amna Baloch thanked Syrus for his leadership and contributions over a 34-year diplomatic career while praising his professionalism, acumen, and warm demeanor.
During her diplomatic career, Ambassador Baloch, a mother of two, has held several important assignments in Islamabad and Pakistan’s Mission abroad including the additional secretary in the foreign minister’s office.
She holds a master’s degree in history and joined the Pakistan Foreign Service in 1991. She also served as a joint secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office.
