LAHORE: Lahore’s Sheikh Zayed Hospital has stopped providing free medicines to patients undergoing treatment through health cards, here on Saturday.

Due to the administrative incompetence of the hospital, the health card offices in the hospital have been closed, while the State Life Insurance Company informed the head of Sheikh Zayed Hospital.

A spokesperson of the State Life Insurance Company said that patients will now have to buy medicines and medical equipment from private pharmacies, as the hospital management is not facilitating the patients.

Despite the Health Card’s goal of offering free treatment, the hospital continues to claim bills from patients, leading to the closure of Health Card facilities in the hospital.

On the other hand, the hospital administration cited lack of funds, which led to shortage of medicines and the need to settle payments to contractors.

In response, the Punjab Health Company, deploring the financial burden on health card holders, announced that it would no longer cooperate with the federal hospital.
