Banned JAAC leader Shaukat Nawaz Mir arrested

ISLAMABAD: Leader of the Banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), Shaukat Nawaz Mir, has been arrested from Baagh, Azad Kashmir, according to sources.

Shaukat Nawaz was arrested at the Hill Tunnel while traveling to participate in the Rawalakot sit-in, according to initial reports

Deputy Commissioner Muzaffarabad Munir Qureshi confirmed this and said that Shaukat Nawaz Mir was arrested from the border between Muzaffarabad and Bagh.

Meanwhile, SSP Muzaffarabad Riaz Mughal said that Shaukat Nawaz Mir was wanted by the police in various cases and was arrested from the Dhirkot area during an operation.

It should be remembered that in the context of the protest movement, the Kashmir government had declared the Awami Action Committee illegal and initiated legal action against some of its central leaders. The Home Department also announced a reward of Rs 1 crore each for those who help in the arrest of four active leaders.

According to the official notification, the reward list includes Shaukat Nawaz Mir, Omar Nazir Kashmiri, Khawaja Mehran Arshad, and Sardar Aman Khan.
