HYDERABAD: Chairman of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that he will be compelled to take “controversial path” for the passage of the 26th constitutional amendment if the opposition parties refused to support his efforts to pass the judicial package with consensus.

Addressing a rally held in Hyderabad on the 17th anniversary of the Karsaz incident, he said, “I myself am making a last-ditch effort to persuade the opposition parties to vote uncontroversially in favour of the constitutional amendment.”

The PPP chief said that “we all have to pray for the country’s democracy” if they fail to build a consensus on the proposed constitutional amendment.

The PPP chief said that if the opposition refused to support us despite so many compromises, then I would be forced to pass the amendment with the support of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and additional members.

He added that if the opposition refused to build a consensus on the draft, they would have to pass the 26th constitutional amendment in parliament with the support of additional members.

It is important for us to establish a forum for equal representation of all provinces, but if the opposition closes the door on us, I will be forced to take the ‘controversial route’, which is not my favourite route, and I have not tried. of with this in mind, I will form a constitutional bench at the federal and provincial levels together with my allies.
