Benazir Kafalat Program simplifies eligibility, payment checks for families
ISLAMABAD: The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has introduced a retail-based payment system to distribute quarterly installments to the recipients.
The new payment methodology is effective from the issuance of the BISP Quarter 4 installment. This development comes after the persisting heatwave situation in Pakistan, with an objective to provide a safer and more respectable ambiance to the beneficiaries.
Contrary to the earlier camp-based approach, the new system will facilitate beneficiaries to receive their cash grants at sponsored retail outlets with biometric identification systems.
The revised mechanism also offers increased transparency through the issuance of printed receipts during payment.
Earlier, BISP Additional Secretary Dr. Tahir Noor had visited District Khanewal to gauge readiness in the field. While on the tour, he inspected logistic preparations and consulted district teams and partner banks to ensure effective implementation of the new system.
Dr. Noor underlined that the new process is designed to facilitate payments more conveniently, respectfully, and in an easily accessible manner, particularly in adverse weather.
He directed the partner banks to make all retail outlets fully operational with trained staff, biometric readers, network availability, and prominently displayed awareness material.
He also asked BISP field teams to launch awareness campaigns to educate all eligible beneficiaries on the new payment procedures.
A day before, Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Chairperson Senator Rubina Khalid took a meeting with Director General Pakistan Post Samiullah Khan at BISP Headquarters to discuss digital payment solutions for the disbursement of the stipends among the beneficiaries through biometric verification.
A pilot program will be introduced first, and both organizations’ technical teams have agreed to meet shortly to evaluate system integration.
Chairperson Rubina Khalid underscored BISP‘s objective to partner with Pakistan Post in offering convenient and safe digital payment facilities for more than 10 million beneficiaries nationwide.
