LAHORE: Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Chief Minister of Punjab, announced that the province has distributed or approved 31,000 tractors under the Green Tractor Scheme, which she described as a record expansion in agricultural support.
Maryam Nawaz announced through a social media statement that previous governments provided around 20,000 tractors to farmers over the past 25 years.
The current government of Punjab has delivered or finalized 31,000 tractors under the Green Tractor Scheme, which it achieved within two years. The officials confirmed that the total includes three phases.
The government shared 10,000 tractors with 50 to 75 horsepower in Phase I. The second phase introduced 11,000 tractors, which operated between 75 and 85 horsepower, and received a fixed subsidy of Rs 1 million.
The latest development occurred this week in February 2026 when authorities finished balloting for 10,000 additional tractors under Phase III. The third phase provides 50 to 65 horsepower tractors to small-scale farmers who receive a subsidy of Rs500,000 for each tractor.
The agriculture department aims to enhance farming mechanisation, which will result in higher crop yields while decreasing farmer operational costs. The Green Tractor Scheme’s 31,000 tractors represent one of the largest provincial agricultural support programs that have been implemented in recent years.
Punjab, which contributes a major share to Pakistan’s crop production, has been pushing mechanisation to strengthen food security and rural incomes.
