BAHAWALNAGAR: In a devastating incident that highlights the dark reality of gender-based violence, Shumaila Bibi, a 30-year-old woman from Kot Radha Kishan, was allegedly murdered by her husband, Nauman, in the Khadam area of Bahawalnagar.

The victim had been subjected to constant physical and emotional abuse by her husband and in-laws for not bringing dowry and for giving birth to daughters instead of sons.

Shumaila and Nauman had married of their own choice and had six children together, including two sons and four daughters.

However, despite having two sons, Nauman and his family continued to taunt and abuse Shumaila for not producing more male heirs.

After the birth of her fourth daughter, who tragically passed away shortly after, the abuse escalated. Nauman, in a fit of rage, married another woman, Nabila Bibi, and began to openly mistreat Shumaila.

Nauman, along with his mother and second wife, brutally assaulted Shumaila using a gas cylinder, resulting in her tragic death.

The police registered a case against Nauman at the City B Division Police Station and arrested him following a complaint from Shumaila’s brother. The deceased’s body was sent to the District Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

This tragic incident highlights the ongoing issue of honor killings and gender-based violence in the region, where women are often subjected to brutal treatment and even murder for not meeting societal expectations.

The case has sparked outrage and calls for justice, with many demanding stricter laws and greater protections for women against domestic violence and honor killings.
