Electricity prices likely to be reduced across Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: There is a possibility of a reduction in per-unit electricity prices for consumers across the country.

If the application submitted by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) is approved, electricity prices are expected to be reduced by 72 paisa per unit under the monthly fuel adjustment for November.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) will hear the application on December 31. In case of approval, electricity consumers will receive relief of 72 paisa per unit.

According to the application, a total of 7.813 billion units of electricity were supplied to DISCOs during November. Documents submitted to NEPRA show that the per-unit cost of electricity in November was Rs 6.16.

As per details, the documents further stated that during November, 39.16 percent of electricity was generated from hydropower, 9.34 percent from local coal, 5.06 percent from imported coal, 8.44 percent from gas, 8.64 percent from imported LNG, and 25.23 percent from nuclear fuel.
