ISLAMABAD: In response to allegations of electoral rigging during the General Election 2024 made by Commissioner Rawalpindi Liaqat Ali Chatha, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Qazi Faez Isa has issued a statement firmly denying any involvement. Justice Isa emphasized that under the constitution, it is the sole responsibility of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to conduct elections.

“The allegations against me are baseless,” stated CJP Justice Faez Isa, adding that Commissioner Rawalpindi should provide evidence to substantiate his claims. He further remarked, “Commissioner Rawalpindi did not present any evidence. Tomorrow he may come up with allegations of theft or murder. If it is his right to accuse someone, he should also provide evidence.”

Justice Qazi Faez Isa underscored that petitions concerning alleged irregularities and rigging are being filed, and the judiciary will adjudicate them in accordance with the law.

Earlier in the day, Commissioner Rawalpindi Liaqat Ali Chatha accused both the CJP and the Chief Election Commissioner of involvement in rigging during the 2024 elections. However, in a surprising turn of events, Chatha resigned from his post and surrendered to the police, stating, “I accept responsibility for rigging election 2024.”
