Fazlur Rehman confirms party’s continued role as opposition

ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema Islam (JUI) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has announced that JUI is and will remain a part of the opposition.

Former Federal Minister Muhammad Ali Durrani met Maulana Fazlur Rehman. According to media reports, the meeting took place at Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s residence which continued till late night between Tuesday and Wednesday in which political issues and future strategy were discussed.

Muhammad Ali Durrani informed Maulana Fazlur Rahman about his political engagements. On this occasion, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that JUI is and will remain a part of the opposition, the government will not be able to get the support of any opposition party for legislation that is against the constitution and democracy.

He further said that the existence of the government and its actions are against the interests of the people. Supporting such a government is tantamount to inviting the wrath of the people. He further said that we want only the authority that the people have given us.

Commenting on Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Durrani said that you are on the right side of history. You have always maintained political traditions and democratic values.

It should be noted that President Asif Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had met Maulana Fazlur Rehman in the past few days. The Prime Minister had expressed confidence in Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
