ISLAMABAD: In a ground breaking move, The federal government of Pakistan has initiated work on budget estimates for the upcoming fiscal year, with key directives issued regarding unnecessary positions and the creation of new vacancies
As part of this effort, they are closely analyzing unnecessary positions and the creation of new vacancies. All federal ministries, divisions, and departments have received the directive to identify and abolish redundant positions, and there is a complete bar on creating an additional position without prior approval from the Ministry of Finance.
By February 6, all government entities are required to supply exhaustive details about their existing governing structure to enable the government to understand the best way to trim its budget and reduce its wage bill.
The government is also taking a hard look at the slots that have been vacant for over three years and will likely eliminate them. This is all in the name of cutting government costs and developing sustainable growth, as Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said.
In fact, he has already come out with the claim that the government has abolished 150,000 posts within the framework of federal ministries and departments, a significant milestone towards accomplishing the country goals.
In addition, the government is pursuing a tax reform and calling for enhanced participation of the private sector in the economy, which will spur growth and development.
Altogether, this shows the government is proactive in bringing its finances in order for sustainable economic growth, but it would be interesting to see how this could play out in the coming year.
