Federal govt debt goes up by 1.8% in November 2024

ISLAMABAD: The total public debt stock of the federal government increased by 11 percent in November 2024 on a year-on-year (YoY) basis compared to the same month of the previous year.

According to the monthly data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the debt stock increased to Rs 10 billion. As compared to Rs 70.363 trillion in November 2024. 63.390 trillion in November 2023.

On a monthly basis, the total public debt stock of the federal government increased by 1.8 percent to Rs 69.114 trillion in October 2024.

The data shows that the domestic debt of the central government has increased by 18.6 percent, which is more than Rs 2000 trillion. 40.956 trillion in November 2023 to 48.585 trillion in November 2024, an increase of 2.9% over the previous month.

Of the total domestic debt, long-term public debt increased from Rs. 33.206 trillion to Rs. 38.968 trillion and short-term debt stock increased from Rs. 7.624 trillion to Rs. 9.637 trillion during the previous year.
