FIA arrests accused behind Maryam Nawaz’s deepfake video

LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) has arrested an accused involved in sharing derogatory deepfake videos of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz.

FIA Cyber Crime Reporting Centre Lahore arrested the alleged accused namely Bilal Hussain from Khokhar Town Lahore.

According to the FIR, a first information report (FIA) report was registered against the above-mentioned individual under sections 20, 21, and 24 of PECA, 2016.

Bilal was booked for sharing the AI-generated defamatory reel on his Facebook account involving a chief minister and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

The FIA spokesperson said that the alleged Facebook account and mobile phone used to share the derogatory post have been recovered from the person.

The accused will be produced before the concerned court today for physical remand.
