Fifth monsoon spell anticipated from July 28: PDMA Punjab

LAHORE: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has released a monsoon alert in anticipation of the fifth spell of seasonal rains, starting from July 28 to 31.

Heavy rains are expected across most districts of the province, according to the PDMA Punjab.

Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Jhelum, Sheikhupura, Sahiwal, and Jhang are expected to experience widespread rainfall in the fifth spell of monsoon.

Murree and Galiyat may witness landslides as both are likely to receive heavy rains in the coming days.

Attock, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Nankana Sahib, Toba Tek Singh, Khushab, Sargodha, and Mianwali may also experience moderate downpour.

Rainfall is further expected in Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Bhakkar, Khanewal, Pakpattan, Vehari, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh and Rajanpur between July 29 and 31.

All deputy commissioners and pertinent departments around the province have been instructed to maintain a high level of alertness by Punjab Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed. “For the fourteenth consecutive year, the monsoon’s intensity is abnormally high,” he said. “Rainfall this year is 73% higher than it was during the same time last year.”

To reduce the risk of the rains, authorities have asked people to take precautions. Because to the risk of landslides, visitors have been cautioned not to make needless trips to Murree and other mountainous regions.
