LAHORE: Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab on Monday issued a flood warning at the Taunsa Barrage on the Indus River due to rising water levels.
A moderate flood situation has emerged at the barrage, according to a PDMA spokesman, where the discharge of water has risen to 418,000 cusecs and is expected to further rise.
The Punjab PDMA has also warned of an ongoing increase in river flow and called on concerned departments to remain vigilant.
Meanwhile, minor flood situations are also reported at the Sukkur and Guddu barrages. Rescue 1122 and other concerned departments—Local Government, Agriculture, Irrigation, and Health—have been tasked with conducting all emergency preparations well in advance.
Notifications have also been sent to the Forest, Livestock, and Transport departments.
Director General PDMA appealed that all precautionary measures should be adopted instantly, in accordance with the Chief Minister Punjab’s orders.
He also ordered officials to provide the public with updates on the changing situation in real time.
The public is urged to exercise prudence and follow official safety protocols. In emergency situations, the public is free to call the PDMA’s helpline at 1129.
