TANK: Another poliovirus case has been reported from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Tank district on Wednesday, raising the total number of cases to 69.
The National Institute of Health (NIH) in Islamabad confirmed the presence of Wild poliovirus type 1 in a 20-month-old girl from Union Council Malazai in the Tank district.
With the first case of 2025, the total number of cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reached 21, while Sindh reported 19 cases along with the highest number of cases from Balochistan (27).
Punjab and Islamabad each reported one polio case.
The previous month, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government took the bold step to eradicate the polio province by linking the issuance of key government certificates with vaccination against it.
The KP government has made polio vaccination mandatory to receive all vital certificates—birth, marriage, and death — in at least seven tehsils in the Peshawar District.
As instructed by the deputy commission, it is now mandatory to present a verification certificate from the district health office confirming polio vaccination to acquire these documents.
