ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan captain Younis Khan has been appointed as the mentor for Afghanistan’s cricket team for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) spokesperson Sayeed Naseem Sadat confirmed the appointment on Wednesday.
“ACB has assigned former experienced top order Pakistani player Younis Khan as Mentor for Champions Trophy 2025. Younis will join the team before the tournament begins in Pakistan,” he said
Afghanistan, a semi-finalist in the T20 World Cup 2024, will strengthen its side with additional guidance and experience from Younis Khan ahead of the tournament, scheduled to be played from February 19 to March 9, 2025.
The team is placed in Group B alongside Australia, South Africa, and England, while Group A consists of Pakistan, India, New Zealand, and Bangladesh.
The ICC Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan and Dubai from 19 February to 9 March 2025.
