Flour prices jump by Rs13 per kg in Karachi

KARACHI: The price of fine and 2.5 number flour has increased by Rs 13 per kg in Karachi.

According to the Chairman of the Flour Mills Association, the price of flour has increased due to the increase in wheat prices in 15 days. In 15 days, 2.5 number flour has increased from Rs 119 per kg to Rs 132 per kg.

Chairman of the Flour Mills Association Junaid Aziz says that the price of fine flour has crossed Rs 140 per kg. The price of wheat per kg has increased from Rs 106 to Rs 118 per kg.

He says that the price of flour has increased due to the increase in the price of wheat. According to these circumstances, the government will have to import wheat. The sooner the government decides to import wheat, the more benefit the people will have. If the government delays the decision to import wheat, the benefit will be to those who hoard wheat.

He said that the government will have to import at least 3 to 4 million tons of wheat. Wheat should be imported as per the country’s needs; otherwise, the farmer will suffer losses. In Karachi, 2 million to 2.2 million sacks of flour are used monthly in summer, while in winter, wheat consumption reaches 2.6 million sacks.
