TEHRAN: The funeral prayer of the martyred Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been offered in Tehran, according to Iranian media.
The funeral was attended by millions of people, including Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Iranian Speaker Baqir Qalibaf.
The main funeral procession will be held on Monday morning, after which the body will be transferred to Qom, from where the body will be taken to the Iraqi cities of Najaf and Karbala. The martyred Supreme Leader will be buried in his hometown of Mashhad on July 9.
According to Iranian media, Ayatollah Ja’far Subhani led the funeral prayer of the martyred Iranian Supreme Leader.
Earlier, Previously, Fars News Agency reported that Iran’s Commander-in-Chief of the Law Enforcement Command, Brigadier General Ahmadreza Radan, stated that 65,000 people would be mobilized in the provinces of Tehran, Qom, and Mashhad to guarantee safety and security throughout the rituals.
Another 200,000 men and women will be allocated to ensure security on roads and borders from Iran’s borders to the three host provinces. Deployment of 16,000 specialized patrols and the establishment of 15,000 security checkpoints have also been included in the plan.
In announcing complete readiness to welcome guests from other countries, Radan declared that all air and ground entry points have been fully prepared to receive those coming to join the ceremonies in Tehran, Qom, and Mashhad, and that all necessary police, security, and protection measures for the ceremonies have been implemented.
A ceremony was also held on Friday in Tehran in which the delegations from abroad paid their tributes to the martyred leader. This ceremony gathered one of the biggest delegations of foreign dignitaries in Iran for many decades, coming from Asia, Africa, Europe, America, and other international organizations.
