ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development has recommended to the federal cabinet that Sardar Tahir Sabir be given temporary charge as chairman of the National Industrial Relations Commission, sources said.

According to sources, the position of chairman of NIRC fell vacant following the resignation of Justice (retd) Shaukat Siddiqui.

Sources said the ministry informed the cabinet that additional time was required for the appointment of a permanent chairman.

Officials further stated that under the Industrial Relations Act 2012, a temporary chairman cannot formally be appointed; however, one of the serving members of the commission can be assigned acting charge.

Sources added that the Islamabad High Court had also directed authorities to hand over acting charge of the chairman’s office to a senior member of the commission until a permanent appointment is made.
