ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Petroleum Musadik Malik on Friday said the government was providing subsidy on food items which would be expanded further to provide relief to the masses.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Musadik Malik said the government had taken effective measures to curb the trade deficit and imposed ban on the import of luxury items.

He said the government would provide Rs2,000 subsidy to the households earning less than Rs40,000 a month

The minister said Imran Khan gave subsidy to the masses before end of his government and that too without taking an approval from any forum in this regard.

He said the masses would pay the subsidy’s price in the form of expensive petrol.

He alleged that Imran Khan had struck the deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to increase levies and prices.

The Pakistan Muslim League-N leader said Imran Khan steered the country towards default.

He said the incumbent government had decided not to boost the prices without giving relief to the poor.

He said the previous government spread the economic destruction in the country. “Imran Khan says, ‘let’s end the game, if I cannot play it’.”

The state minister said the previous government had given a subsidy of Rs700 to Rs800 on petrol for three months.
