ISLAMABAD: Pakistan plans to send 8 lac workers abroad in 2026, up from 7.4 lac in 2025, Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain said during his UAE visit.

The government is establishing training institutions to equip workers with soft skills and pre-departure training. The programs evaluate candidates through assessment tests, which enhance their chances of employment in both the UAE and international job markets.

The world currently has 10 million Pakistanis living outside their home country, with more than 1.7 million residing in the UAE.

Salik Hussain visited the Pakistan Consulate in Dubai to assess the consular operations, which included passport and ID services along with community welfare assistance.

He met with Consul General Hussain Muhammad to discuss the establishment of efficient services for expatriate community members. Pakistan and the UAE recently agreed to a pre-immigration clearance system, which they are testing in Karachi.

Salik Hussain met with Kuwait’s Director-General of Public Authority for Manpower to discuss a Labour MoU and access to recruitment portals. The two parties established a system of regular talks to develop their employment relationship.
