The appeal against the execution of former President Pervez Musharraf and other cases related to high treason will be heard in the Supreme Court today.

A 4-member bench headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa will conduct the hearing. It should be remembered that all the cases, including the appeal against the annulment of the sentence of former President and Chief of Army Staff Pervez Musharraf, have been scheduled for hearing in the Supreme Court 9 months after his death. Former President Pervez Musharraf died on February 5 this year in Dubai.

Pervez Musharraf was sentenced to death in his absence by a special court in December 2019 in the high treason case, but later the Lahore High Court declared the creation of the special court unconstitutional.

Pakistan Bar Council, Sindh Bar Council and Advocate Tawfiq Asif have filed appeals against this decision of Lahore High Court. A separate application filed by a lawyer to include Pervez Musharraf’s name in the ECL has also been scheduled for hearing. Notices were issued to all parties and lawyers by the Registrar’s Office.
