ICT police to provide foolproof security for Muharram

ISLAMABAD :Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Muhammad Jawad Tariq, chaired a high-level meeting to review strategies for crime prevention and to finalize foolproof security arrangements for the upcoming holy month of Muharram.

An official told APP on Saturday that the meeting was attended by SSP Investigation, SSP Operations Islamabad, SP Security Operations, Zonal SPs, SDPOs, and SHOs. The participants discussed crime control strategies and comprehensive security planning during Muharram processions and gatherings.

DIG Tariq said that the arrest of hardened criminals, proclaimed offenders, and those with prior criminal records must be ensured at all costs. He emphasized that patrolling duties be made more effective and purposeful and that every officer must be visible in the field.

DIG Tariq said that crackdown operations must be launched against active criminal gangs. Arrests must be ensured of those involved in possessing illegal weapons, displaying arms publicly, and selling narcotics, he added.

DIG Tariq directed that all available resources be utilized for eliminating crimes and maintaining peace in the federal capital.

DIG Tariq said that all officers must coordinate with the organizers of Imambargahs and strengthen liaison with the community to ensure peaceful observance of Muharram.

DIG Tariq instructed police officials to play their due role in maintaining a secure and peaceful environment during the holy month. He also directed that concrete measures be taken to provide maximum protection to Majalis and mourning processions.

DIG Tariq said that strict action must be taken against aerial firing, hooliganism, and one-wheeling, adding that protection of life and property of citizens remains the top priority of Islamabad Police./
