ISLAMABAD: For more than two years, former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has been confined to what his son calls a “death cell.”
The sons of PTI founder Imran Khan have announced their visit to Pakistan. Imran Khan’s son Qasim Khan told British broadcaster Sky News in an interview that he and his brother Suleman have applied for their visas and are both planning to visit Pakistan in January.
The PTI chief, who faces cases ranging from attempted murder to blasphemy and even terrorism, is facing further difficulties due to his anti-military rhetoric. Khan’s sons said he is enduring unimaginable conditions in prison, which his sons have described as a “death cell.”
Qasim said their father would “never make a deal that would see members of his party rot in jail” and choose to live in brutal conditions while pursuing his lifelong goal of ending corruption in the South Asian country.
Imran’s sister Uzma revealed that her brother is facing severe isolation and psychological distress, with family visits banned for weeks.
Khan has been behind bars since August 2023 after serving a three-year sentence for illegally selling state gifts, facing multiple convictions that he claims are politically motivated following his ouster in a 2022 parliamentary vote.
Family members have expressed growing fear for their father’s life. They described him enduring two years of solitary confinement, drinking dirty water, being surrounded by prisoners suffering from infectious diseases, and being cut off from any human contact.
