PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced the construction of its own power transmission lines, aimed at revolutionising the energy and industrial sectors in the province.

In a ceremony held at the Chief Minister’s House in Peshawar, Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO) formally signed an agreement with a private firm to establish a transmission line at a cost of Rs8 billion.

After signing the agreement, KP became the first province to undergo such a project.

According to the details, during the first phase, the 40-kilometer-long 132/220 KV transmission line will be installed, connecting Matiltan to Midian in Swat, and is projected to be completed in 18 months. This initial phase is anticipated to generate an annual revenue of Rs 7 billion.

KP government’s information advisor, Barrister Saif, highlighted that under the leadership of Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, KP surpassed other provinces by establishing its own power transmission line. Saif stated that the transmission line will provide industries with highly affordable electricity.

Furthermore, he added that, in phase two, an additional 80-kilometer line extending from Madian to Chakdara will be installed, as several hydropower projects with a total generating capacity of hundreds of megawatts are currently in progress in the Swat Corridor.

The project is expected to be completed in one and a half years, he added.
